Editor’s note : only 2 RCTs ever done to try to answer this question . Answer? VL worse than DL. The other non randomised studies have issues of bias that make an objective conclusion difficult. In my own state, the two aeromedical services have chosen to adopt the McGrath Mac VL. I hear its been chosen for trial use by Ambulance Victoria. RFDS WA and Sydney HEMS went with the King Vision a few years ago. Suffice to say , no one has totally abandoned DL and it is the preferred primary technique still in Australian prehospital airway care requiring endotracheal intubation.
