“Catecholamines” (Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me”)
by Gabriella Smith (@WILDestdreams_3)
You’re in your car on the freeway–it’s so wet
You’re going off the road a little bit
And you cannot get control of your brakes now
You’re pretty scared, it’s a typical fight-or-flight
The kind of situation nobody likes
But you’ve got your adrenals to help you
The medulla does secretion
Epinephrine
And norepinephrine
What they want for you is to wake up and find
That you’re out of danger and you’re alive
If you could see
That it’s the stuff
That helps you stand stress
Ready all along
So why can’t you see–
Catecholamines?
Catecholamines.
They are secreted from the adrenal glands
I can’t help thinking this is how it ought to be
Messages from the brain get it started up
It’s sympathetic
And it’s got a use
With life-threat’ning allergies
Increasing blood flow’s what you want to see
If you’re not fine, your body figures that
Hey, why’d you get yourself in trouble like that?
The medulla does secretion
Epinephrine
And norepinephrine
What they want for you is to wake up and find
That you’re out of danger and you’re alive
If you could see
That it’s the stuff
That helps you stand stress
Ready all along
So why can’t you see–
Catecholamines?
Standing by and waiting for short-term stress
All this time how could you not know, baby?
Catecholamines
And if somebody broke into your house
In the middle of the night
It’s the stuff that ups glucose
When you think you’re ‘bout to die
It brings the heart rate up
And it mobilizes fat
Think you don’t know what it’s called
It’s a catecholamine
Can’t you see that it’s the stuff
That helps you stand stress
Ready all along
So why can’t you see–
Catecholamines.
Standing by and waiting for short-term stress
All this time how could you not know, baby?
Catecholamines
Catecholamines
Catecholamines.
Have you ever thought you need
Catecholamines?
Catecholamines
