University Course in Retrieval Medicine – defining the discipline

Bond University, Gold Coast, Australia and Royal Flying Doctor Service Queensland have launched an immersive, innovative Retrieval Medicine course.

Hi all.

The courses are:

  • Graduate Certificate in Retrieval Medicine
  • Graduate Diploma in Retrieval Medicine

Please note that Bond University has 3 semesters per year starting in January, May and September.

The Graduate Certificate course will commence THIS September and will be offered only once a year for a September semester start.

The Graduate Diploma course will start NEXT May and will be offered only once a year for a May semester start.



The Graduate Certificate will be comprised of 4 units (subjects) that need to be completed:

  • Principles of retrieval medicine
  • Retrieval physiology
  • The Retrieval environment
  • Clinical retrieval medicine

The Graduate Diploma will be comprised of the above 4 units (subjects) and an additional 4 that need to be completed which are:

  • Human factors in retrieval medicine
  • Organisational aspects of retrieval medicine
  • Special conditions in retrieval medicine
  • Research methods for health professionals


These programs have been designed for medical practitioners, nurses and paramedics in recognition of the significant contribution of each group within the retrieval medicine environment.

These programs have been developed as a partnership between Bond University and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the world’s largest aeromedical provider and they will focus on current and future retrieval systems and evidence based approaches within the Australasian and international context.

Pre-requisites for entry to these programs will be an appropriate Bachelor degree or equivalent in Medicine, Nursing or Paramedic Science AND current Australian or New Zealand relevant health professional registration ( or equivalent for those Paramedics working where registration currently does not exist )

Options for recognition of prior learning can be discussed on an individual basis.

The mode of delivery will be flexible, interactive,  on-line and include a 3 – 4 day residential component each semester.

    I noticed that the link for the Masters program is broken. Bond University no longer offers a Master is Retrieval Medicine. Would you be able to please remove the link?
