ULTRASOUND GUIDED TRACHEAL INTUBATION : A NOVEL INTUBATION TECHNIQUE
Most of us working in ED, ICU and OT ..and increasingly nowadays Prehospital and retrieval services, have access to portable ultrasound imaging for bedside assessment and procedures.
Some of us also have access to Video Laryngoscope systems.
What if one device could do both jobs?
It would mean you would not have to carry extra gear in prehospital setting.
Also it would mean you would not need special adjuncts like special stylets etc to assist in difficult intubation.
You might not even need to manipulate the larynx for that better view..because you can image the airway anatomy externally and display on a monitor and know exactly where you need to move the ETT to pass the cords!
Its not a blind technique it is an ultrasound enhanced technique of intubation!
So still have your basic DL tools and technique but now you can enhance it with real time imaging..and you dont need to buy or maintain a separate device.
Kudos and thanks to the authors of this paper, fantastic innovation and sharing!
