Ever wanted to be a Royal Flying Doctor and do Outback Retrieval Medicine?
Well we have an unique opportunity for you to have a regular taste of this work but not have to change your life nor move house!
In RFDS Mt Isa base in far northwest Queensland, we have casual and permanent part time positions available for aeromedical doctors to do fly in/out shift work.
1-2 weeks of pure aeromedical retrieval and telemedicine then fly home and return to your normal routine.
Whilst here ,we provide you with accomodation, usually a small house and a car. We pay for your flights. You get to participate in our aeromedical training program which I am involved in, so you can learn things like prehospital ultrasound, ketamine retrieval sedation and conducting research in retrieval medicine.
We are looking for experienced doctors with a broad skill and experience base, focussed on emergency medicine, intensive care, anaesthesia and obstetric medicine. Telemedicine is a core part of the work and we will train you on the job for this. You need to be a team player as well as leader in remote settings, working with experienced flight nurses and retrieval pilots.
The range of clinical work is broad, ranging from adult trauma primary retrievals as pictured in the feature image, to preterm obstetric deliveries in remote locations, to critical care interhospital transfers. This is the frontline of Outback Retrieval Medicine. Look it up on a map but our territory covers places like Hells Gate Roadhouse!
